Born in 1878, Antoine MOUEIX perfectly embodies the many people who deserted the Corrèze région
at the beginning of the 20th century and decided to head off down the Dordogne - the "River of Hope" as they called it -
to build a better life in and around Bordeaux. With the energy and determination of youth, he decided to sell the wines
of Pomerol and Saint-Emilion to potential customers in Lille and its area, the French and Flemish regions of Belgium and
other Northern European lands. Success was not long in rewarding his efforts and his business dealings flourished. |
In 1923, the year when his son Jean-Marie
joined him, he bought Château Taillefer - the first stone in a family edifice that was to take in many other estates
over the years (Château Tauzinat l'Hermitage, Saint-Emilion grand cru, bought in 1953). Today, for all those who love great wines, the Moueix family continues
to symbolise commercial dynamism and unfailing commitment to quality in Pomerol and in Saint-Emilion.
